I don’t know my salary – New NYA CEO

Newly appointed Chief Executive Officer of the National Youth Authority, Sylvester Tetteh Newly appointed Chief Executive Officer of the National Youth Authority, Sylvester Tetteh

The newly appointed Chief Executive Officer of the National Youth Authority Sylvester Tetteh says he accepted the job without knowing how much he will be paid.

That nonetheless, he says, the remuneration packages of the authority is poor.

“I don’t know how much I’m going to earn yet. The appointment letter doesn’t state how much one will earn. The NYA is not attracting a number of people (the necessary manpower) because the remuneration is not competitive enough. We’re working for the State so that’s fine,” he told Francis Abban on the Morning Starr.

He also noted he has never received or paid a bribe for anything.

“I’ve never taken bribe neither have I given bribe to anybody. I’m not corrupt either”.

Mr Mensah was appointed to the job following the dismissal of Emmanuel Asigri who was hit with a procurement scandal. He was removed with his deputies.

The CEO, however, says work culture must change at the youth authority.

“I’ll do the necessary shakeups at the NYA when need be. When you take on a new role at a organization everyone wants to impress so I’m still observing the entire team to know people for who they are. Ever since I was appointed I get to the office at 7 am and I close around 10 pm. Punctuality for me is key."

"The staff I’m told arrive at 8:30 am but I’m putting in place measures to have staff log in electronically when they report at work. The issues of the youth are not one to be politicized. The young people are the future of the country and must be given equal opportunities”.
