Renowned veteran football commentator Kwabena Yeboah, has expressed his distrust for Politicians describing them as opportunistic.
“Sorry, but Politicians are not people I really trust. Especially Third World Politicians: Because most Third World Politicians see politics as a shortcut to success, so all they do is to go loot state resources,” he said in an interview on Starr Chat with Bola Ray Wednesday on Starr 103.5FM.
“People you have known in society, who hitherto were struggling, four years in power are now millionaires and we live in a country where we are asking [questions], and we have no right to investigate how one makes his money. I find it very, very problematic,” said the celebrated sports journalist who is married to Olive Sawyerr (now Yeboah) - a sister of Deputy Chief of Staff at the presidency, Valerie Sawyerr - both daughters of former Education Minister Harry Sawyerr (late).
According to him, most politicians he has met are only interested in “looting” the country and amassing wealth for themselves.
“Politics has become very lucrative, it has become a shortcut to success,” Mr Yeboah emphasised, adding that his wife and in-laws understand his position and also respect his views on the matter.
“I don’t hide it. [On] one occasion, I remember the former General Secretary [of the governing National Democratic Congress – Dr Josiah Aryeh] came to the house, and was introduced to me by my mother-in-law and my father-in-law Harry Sawyerr. And I told her [in] pointblank [manner that]: ‘…Maa, you know me I don’t trust Politicians. You don’t need to introduce this man to me’. And my father-in-law was like: ‘Oh! You don’t trust me? I’ll take my daughter’” Yeboah recounted casually.
Kwabena Yeboah has in the past rejected many offers for ministerial appointments saying he did not think he was “ready” for that political role.
