I dream to be President – Alban Bagbin

Alban Bagbin, Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin, Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament

The second deputy Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin has revealed that, he has since his childhood, dreamed to be President of Ghana.

According to him, his basic school teachers are aware of this long-nursed dream.

Speaking to the media at Takpo in the Upper West region, the Nadowli-Kaleo lawmaker said he is confident people who know him will not be surprised if he joins the race to lead the NDC in 2020.

“Won’t you be happy if I contest,” he responded to a question that sought his interest in the position.

He continued: “But for me, if you even ask my teacher M.A Seidu he will tell you that my dream from childhood has been to become a president so people won’t be surprised, but you will be happy to see me contest the presidency”.

This appears to be the first time the experienced lawmaker is being clear about his presidential ambitions.

It comes on the back of the counsel by former President John Mahama for members of the opposition party to be cautious of their utterances and concentrate on building the structures of the party instead of who becomes the flagbearer.

Some members of the party have called for an early congress in order to put the leadership hullabaloo to an end.

Meanwhile, Mr. Bagbin noted that he is not surprised by the conducts of the vigilante groups associated with the New Patriotic Party following their victory in the 2016 elections.

“This is not new to some of us who have been in the system for some time. The NPP raised the hopes of their supporters during the campaigns and so they were anticipating the sacking of NDC members so that they will take over but that is not happening. So it will stop but it will take time”.
