Former Minister of Youth and Sports, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah says he never dreamt of ever doing politics in his life time, saying he entered politics by accident.
According to him, his ambition was to work with the African Union or ECOWAS as he had studied International Relations at the post graduate level.
Mr Afriyie Ankrah who is currently a Minister of State at the Presidency is one indispensable asset of the ruling National Democratic Congress especially when it comes to his organizational skills that has seen several of the party’s national congresses being successful since actively joining the party since 2002.
Speaking to Bola Ray on Starr Chat on Starr FM Wednesday, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah stated that he was drawn into politics when an NDC stalwart Ato Awhoi asked him to join President Mills campaign team to contest against Dr Kwasi Botchway in the party’s presidential election.
“I told him I was heading to ECOWAS and I was going to make $4,000 or $5,000 a month and that I have a family to cater for. He told me well, we can’t pay you but I can assure you that with your experience as a former SRC President it will be useful and you will get to know the country and you will put those skills to use and I told him I was going to consult my wife and pray about it. After some consultations, I got into it.”
He added: “In a way I don’t regret my move, there is a way God does things. As you move along God just directs things.”
