I had no hand in Theodosia Okoh saga – Vanderpuije

The Mayor of Accra Alfred Oko Vanderpuije has revealed that he had no hand in the botched attempt to rename the Theodosia Okoh Hockey Pitch.

According to him, he was not in the country when the supposed renaming was done.

The Presidency, in July 2013, had to intervene to reverse the renaming of the hockey pitch after the AMA, supposedly led by Oko Vanderpuije, named the edifice after the late President John Atta Mills.

The matter triggered massive public backlash for the mayor.

But speaking to Bola on Starr Chat Wednesday, Vanderpuije who is now angling the Ablekuma West parliamentary seat on the ticket of ruling National Democratic Congress said although he will like the matter to be put to rest, he had no hand in the controversial renaming.

“The truth is that Alfred Oko Vanderpuije had no hand in the renaming of the hockey pitch. I had no hand in it. In fact, I was not in the country as of the time.

“The woman was a great woman, she did a lot for the country and I think we should let the matter rest but I knew nothing about the renaming. I just decided to keep quiet over the issue,” he stated.
