‘I’m a Bantama boy’ - Owusu-Bempah rubbishes Wontumi's threats against him

The Founder of Glorious Word Power Ministry International, Rev. Isaac Owusu-Bempah, has reacted to a supposed threat by the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, not to step foot in Kumasi.

Speaking to his congregation on October 13, 2024, Owusu-Bempah laughed at the suggestion that something might happen to him when he goes to Kumasi.

He asserted that Wontumi was a nobody when he was roaming through the streets of Kumasi.

“I’m a Bantama boy, and so the day Chairman Wontumi said I can’t step foot in Kumasi, he made me laugh. When I was going through the streets of Kumasi, Chairman Wontumi was a baby," he said in Twi.

The pastor went on to refute a claim by the NPP Ashanti Regional chairman that he (Owusu-Bempah) has said in the past that Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is going to win the 2024 presidential election.

He said that he never anointed Dr. Bawumia, the presidential candidate of the NPP, as the next president of Ghana, as asserted by Wontumi.

“... I heard my little brother, Chairman Wontumi, say that he brought our vice president to my house and I made the vice president kneel, anointed him and said he (Dr. Bawumia) would be the next president. It is not true," he said.

The pastor added, “Even our vice president knows what Wontumi said is not the truth.”

What Wontumi said:

Refuting allegations by Owusu-Bempah that the NPP was responsible for his arrest by the police in 2021 on Wontumi TV on Sunday, October 6, 2024, Chairman Wontumi stated that Rev. Owusu-Bempah contacted him after his arrest to explain the circumstances surrounding it, revealing that Agradaa had lodged a complaint against him.

Chairman Wontumi therefore dismissed claims that some NPP leaders and elements were responsible for the man of God’s arrest due to his refusal to support Dr. Bawumia’s candidacy.

“I saw a video of him [Owusu-Bempah] claiming that the NPP was responsible for his arrest some time ago, not Agradaa, during an interview. He also stated that I urged him to leave Alan Kyerematen and support Bawumia’s candidacy and that his refusal to do so is why some NPP leaders ordered his arrest.

“Mistakes can be forgiven because as humans we are bound to commit them, but when you lie or cheat, it cannot be forgiven. I don’t even know Agradaa, and when the incident happened, I came on TV and radio to defend you. I received a call from Ernest Owusu-Bempah informing me of his arrest. I proceeded and spoke to him [Rev. Owusu-Bempah], and he narrated that he was arrested without knowing his offense or crime committed. It was when I started conducting my investigations into his arrest that he told me personally that Agradaa had lodged a case against him over an issue. So, I suggested to him to call Pastor Victor to intervene.

“…If today you are saying you are hurt and pained because NPP leaders ordered your arrest, then you are lying. As a man of God, you cannot peddle such lies,” Chairman Wontumi said.

Chairman Wontumi called Rev. Owusu-Bempah’s bluff regarding his claims to reduce the NPP’s chances of winning in the Ashanti Region, daring him to try.

“You claim our [NPP] votes will reduce drastically if you step foot in the Ashanti Region. I dare you to come. What can you do to reduce our votes in the region?” he angrily said.
