Editor of the Al Hajj Newspaper, Alhaji Bature Iddrisu has openly declared that it will be difficult for him to remain incorruptible.
According to the senior journalist, he’s not a public servant where he would be liable to graft offenses should he decide to take bribe.
He made the comments on Adom TV Tuesday after maverick politician and Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Ken Agyapong accused him of being a serial bribe taker.
He accused Alhaji Bature of being bribed with a fresh Toyota Landcruiser Prado vehicle by Ibrahim Mahama, popular businessman and brother of former president John Dramani Mahama which has left him [Bature] always singing the praises of the Mahama’s in publications in his newspaper and any media platform that he finds himself.
“I’m asking you, the Landcruiser you drove here is it not a bribe from Ibrahim Mahama? That is why you always mention the Mahama family. You Alhaji Bature, you take bribes more than anyone in Ghana.”
Ken Agyapong contended that there’s everything wrong with Alhaji Bature a seasoned journalist taking bribes and writing derogatory comments about President Akufo Addo to please his pay masters.
However, Alhaji Bature in defence responded admitting that he’d been gifted with the said vehicle but clarified that it wasn’t meant to bribe him.
“This man is missing the point, I’m not MP, I’m not government official, I’m not even a party official so if I take bribe that’s not your business. What is this fixation that Ibrahim has bought me a vehicle, I’ve admitted that I cannot be incorruptible. That car is not a bribe, it was a gift. I’m not a public officer, if you give me a gift I’ll take it.”
