I’m energised and excited in India – Oquaye Jnr

Ghana Ghana

Ghana’s High Commissioner to India, Mike Oquaye Jnr., has debunked reports that he is no longer interested in spending the rest of his time in India and currently itching to return to Ghana.

A newspaper report on 14 February 2020 alleged that Mr Oquaye Junior was tired of his stay in India and pushing for a comeback to Ghana.

But in a sharp rebuttal, the former Dome Kwabenya NPP parliamentary aspirant described the report as false and an attempt by some hidden hands to score political points against him.

Disputing the report in a Facebook post, Mr Oquaye said “I am so energised and excited in India.”

He disclosed that the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II was visiting India in March. He further noted that Ghana has also set a record 34 per cent increase in trade with India which is in Ghana’s favour under his tenure as High Commissioner.

Mr Oquaye is expected to submit his nomination form on Tuesday, 18 February 2020, at the NPP’s constituency office in Kwabenya where he is seeking to unseat the incumbent Sara Adwoa Safo in the upcoming primaries of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).

This is the second time, the two will be facing off. Their first encounter was in 2012, when Mike Oquaye senior, now Speaker of Parliament, was exiting Parliament as a lawmaker.
