Former President Jerry John Rawlings says he is glad the anger of Okyeman against the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), yielded the needed results.

In a tweet, he expressed hope that the NDC party can curtail intemperate language during political discourse to avert such occurrences in the near future.

“Let’s hope our party can curb the use of strong language by some in their political discourse. I’m glad the Okyeman citizenry bared its teeth enough to elicit an apology from the NDC branch responsible”

Last Monday, Chiefs of the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Council and some residents of Kyebi in the Eastern Region poured onto the streets in protest against the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) and some of its assigns.

The march followed a recent comment by the Ashanti Regional Secretary of the NDC, Kwame Zu that, but for former president John Dramani Mahama, the Okyenhene would still be “drinking water with animals”; a statement that has not been taken lightly by OforiPaninfie, the traditional seat of government of the Akyem Abuakwa people.

Mr Zu, has since rendered an unqualified apology to the revered chief, but his angered subjects and people would have none of that.

But commenting on the issue for the first time, the founder of the NDC stated that genuine party persons do not respect and urged all to be reminded of where the party was borne from.

“The genuine NDC borne out of the AFRC/PNDC does not disrespect people. NDC stands for natural justice, discipline and respect. Let’s not sway from these ideals”.
