Executive Secretary of the National Media Commission George Sarpong has denied claims that he owes allegiance to the opposition New Patriotic Party.

According to him, the allegation is baseless and damaging to his reputation as a public officer.

The communications director of the EGLE party Francis Loku accused the NMC boss of being a member of the NPP in the heat of the imbroglio that has hit the establishment of an 18-member election steering committee by the electoral commission. He made the comment in reaction to accusations that the membership of the committee tilted towards the ruling NDC.

But speaking to Starr News, Mr. Sarpong who is a representative of the NMC on the committee said he has never been a member of any political party in the country.

“I have never been a spokesperson for any political party and it has never been part of my career direction. I work for an independent constitutional body and is it important that things are made clear. Anybody who has followed my career will know that I haven’t been a partisan person,” he stressed.

Meanwhile, the Electoral Commission has denied media reports that the committee has been suspended.

"The Electoral Commission’s attention has been drawn to reports in the media that the National Election Steering Committee has been suspended. The Commission wishes to inform the public that the reports are erroneous and should be disregarded".
