Ashanti Regional Police Commander DCOP Kofi Boakye has said his unit is not under pressure to drop the assault case against former Ghana international Baffour Gyan.
Gyan allegedly led thugs to attack a journalist of state-owned Daily Graphic, Daniel Kenu, ahead of the Ghana – Uganda clash in Kumasi after the reporter questioned Black Stars captain, Asamoah Gyan, about rumours that he sacrificed his friend, Castro for spiritual purposes.
DCOP Boakye said although the case involves high profile personalities – the Gyans – no public figure has called him to abort the case, which is now in court.
He said the evidence before them indicates that Baffour clearly flouted the laws of Ghana and has trampled upon the right of the journalist. However, the security capo told Accra-based Joy FM that it is “the judges who will decide. We have finished our work.”
Meanwhile, the victim said he is ready to pursue the case to its natural conclusion and will not yield to an out-of-court settlement. He was grateful to the police for acting swiftly to process the case for court.
Kenu said: “I’ll thank DCOP Kofi Boakye. He’s been like a brother ever since I came to Kumasi. I believe the right thing will be done and justice will be delivered.”
Baffour is on a Gh¢30,000 bail and the case has been adjourned till Friday September 12, 2014.
