I’m still in charge - Apremdo chief rubbishes ‘destoolment claims’

Nana Egya Kwamina XI, overlord of Apremdo Traditional Area in the Ahanta Traditional Council in Western Region, has rubbished claims that he had been destooled.

A group describing themselves as kingmakers of the Apremdo Division in the Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipal Assembly (EKMA) recently claimed at a press a press conference that Nana Egya Kwamina XI had been destooled.

Nana Egya Kwamina XI, known in private life as William Eghan, said, as far as he is concerned, he is fully in charge of Apremdo, managing affairs as custom and tradition require.

He has, therefore, rubbished claims that he had been disrespecting the stool and pursuing a selfish agenda.

Speaking to the media in an interview, the chief explained that he was enstooled as the overlord of the Apremdo traditional area after a protracted chieftaincy dispute which had left the community paralyzed.

He said peace and tranquility have subsequently restored following his assumption of office as one of the hardworking traditional rulers in Ahanta, who succeeded in dealing with all the land disputes that had engulfed the community.

"Currently, there are selfish people calling themselves kingmakers, working their way out to destroy custom and tradition in the area. But as the chief, I have advised those people involved to desist from tampering with the sacred traditional values governing the conduct of activities in the community"

Nana Egya Kwamina XI said he had warned that those people to desist from engaging in activities that seek to bring the stool disrepute.

Addressing the media at a press conference last Friday, spokesperson of the group, John Nat Panyin on behalf of the Ebusuapanyin Dominic Yalley, described the chief with unprintable words. In response to the accusations, however, the chief said he has decided to petition the Ahanta Traditional Council to address issues and deal with the matters raised by the group.

"As civilized, and traditionally cultured as I am; I will not descend in the gutters to disgrace the stool or chieftaincy in Ghana. These are people misconducting themselves publicly".

He called on corporate bodies, various institutions and the general public, especially those operating in the area, to disregard the allegations being leveled against him by the “wayside characters” causing confusion in the community.

"People must stop entertaining these characters in all matters pertaining to the stool of Apremdo," he counseled.
