Former Chief of Staff, Kwadwo Mpiani, says his age will not allow him to be engaged in active public service in the incoming administration of the President-elect, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

In the view of the 76-year-old man, it was time to take the back seat and offer advice to young ones in whose hands this country would be entrusted to manage for the next four years, insisting that his body can no longer cope with the vigorous daily activities in public service.

The septuagenarian interacting with Serwaa Akoto on Kasapa Kasiebo on Kasapa 102.5 FM, Thursday, said it would be difficult for him to change his mind to accept any appointment in the in-coming NPP government.

“I have grown old so I am on pension now. If Nana calls me to come and serve in his administration – I will tell him that whatever way he wants me to help in his government I will, but to be appointed a minister, that one I will beg him. I am now 76 years and will want to operate behind the scenes,” he noted.

However, Mr. Mpiani said should the President-elect insist of appointing him to serve in the new governing administration, he will not decline the offer but will plead to serve for not more than two years.

“If he [Nana Akufo-Addo] insists on appointing me a minister, I will tell him to let me serve for one or one and half years or at least two years for somebody to come and continue. If he still wants me to serve for four years, I will beg him to change his mind,” he said.
