ACP Dr Benjamin Kwasi Agordzo, a Senior Officer of the Ghana Police Service has disclosed that he never harboured any thoughts of staging a coup as purported.

During an interview on Onua TV monitored by MyNewsGh.com, ACP Dr. Benjamin Kwasi Agordzo claimed that the Attorney General and the BNI now NIB lied against him by spreading the claiming that he had wanted to stage a Coup in the country.

“I have never for once thought of organizing a coup either by myself or by organizing people to organize the coup. The allegations were all lies against me by the Attorney General and the BNI cooked against me,” he claimed.

He further lamented how the justice system in Ghana doesn’t allow the accused to defend themselves hence the reason why it took years to realise he was innocent.

“They have their reasons for doing that and for lying against me. The justice system we have in Ghana allows the plaintiffs to tell the truth. The system gives small or no room to the accused to defend him or herself. That is why it took 4 years before my side of the story was known”. He explained.

In 2021, ACP Agordzo was arrested for an alleged plot to destabilise the country, with the accused facing accusations of conspiracy to commit high treason, abetment to high treason, and high treason. The trial, which commenced on June 8, 2021, caught the nation’s attention due to its high-profile nature.

The prosecution team, led by Attorney General Godfred Yeboah Dame, presented a formidable case, including testimony from Seven(7) soldiers.

In contrast, the defence, comprising lawyers such as Rita Akukunti Ali, Victor Kodjogah Adawudu, and others, vigorously defended their clients throughout the proceedings.

However, in 2024, ACP Agordzo was found not guilty and acquitted by the High Court in Accra.

Supporters of the accused gathered in the courtroom, expressing relief and jubilation at the acquittal of ACP Dr Benjamin Kwasi Agordzo.
