Minister of State in charge of National Security, Bryan Acheampong, has denied deploying men to the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election.
According to him, he only spoke on radio and never granted an interview to any television station, adding further that at all times during the interview, he used ‘third person pronouns’.
Bryan courted controversy when he reportedly admitted that he deployed fierce masked wearing men to the Bawaleshie electoral area during the by-election to create chaos which led to the injuring of some members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
But speaking at the first sitting of the Emile Short Commission, Bryan indicated that: "I have never said ‘I’ . . .I have never said anywhere that I deployed men. I have all time mentioned the Ministry of National Security or we . . . I never said I have deployed men.”
“I am a Minister of state and if my Director of Operations tells me that they have deployed men I am part of it, but I did not give the directive; that is what I am battling with . . . I wasn’t even in town. I said we; the National Security but never I,” he added.
Men Deployed
When asked where the men came from he said they are "part of the National Security and they are permanent employees of the outfit".
