The Paramount Chief of Komenda Traditional Area, Nana Kojo Kru II says he never saw and tasted samples of the Komenda sugar allegedly produced after the commissioning of the Factory under former President John Mahama.

“I didn’t see any sugar, whether blue or white. They didn’t bring some to my palace, and up till date, I don’t understand why I wasn’t shown just a sample of that so-called sugar.”

Nonetheless, he told Anopa Kasapa morning show host, Kweku Owusu Adjei on Kasapa 102.5 FM that he could only pardon officials because “Maybe that wasn’t a wholesome sugar for consumption.”

A former board member and secretary to the management board of the Komenda Sugar Factory, Ransford Chatman Vanni-Amoah reacting to this claim said he’s scandalized to learn from the traditional ruler that samples of the sugar were not made available to him.

“When the Factory was commissioned on May, 30, 2016, there was a test run. At the time we didn’t have any MD, but there was what we called the Komenda Sugar Project Management Board; 11 members sat on the Board including Nana Kojo Kru II. The sugar that were produced during the test run, every member of the Board I quite remember was given some of the sugar produced. So it comes to me as a surprise if Nana will today say on radio that he never saw samples of the Komenda Sugar” he said on Kasapa 102.5 FM.

The Government of Ghana has finally handed over the Komenda Sugar Factory to a Strategic Investor.

Park Aggrotech Company Limited, an Indian company based in Ghana and a subsidiary of the Skylark Group of companies won the bid to manage the sugar factory.

The Managing Director of Agrotech Company Limited is Lalit Mishra.

The factory was on Tuesday, November 26, 2019, handed over to the Indian firm to breathe life into the factory after a three-and-half year break.

On Tuesday officials of the Trade Ministry and PwC introduced the investor to the community and officially handed over the facility to the investor.
