Antigraft crusader and former Member of Parliament (MP) for Esikuma-Odobin-Brakwa, Mr. P C Appiah Ofori has revealed that he personally recommended Mr. Martin Amidu, the newly appointed Special Prosecutor to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
Martin Amidu is expected to appear before parliament’s appointees committee to be approved of which he is expected to secure two-thirds majority of the whole house to qualify for the post.
President Nana Addo on Thursday named Mr. Martin Amidu as the Special Prosecutor after receiving the nomination from the Attorney General Gloria Akuffo
According to PC Appiah Ofori, he made his recommendation at the earlier stages when President Akufo Addo revealed he was going to create a Special Prosecutor office in his government.
“When Akufo Addo had the dream to create that office, I recommended Martin Amidu for the job”.
Asked what really impelled him to mention such a name, he indicated that, as he (Martin Amidu) while in office as the Attorney General, did behave as an NDC member but as Ghanaian who had the interest of the country at heart.
“He did his work fairly and irrespective of the party you belong he was fair in his dealings. It was upon this that I believed when he comes everything will go smooth for us”. PC Ofori said.
In his view, it was good Martin Amidu was given the position because he believes an NPP member could shield his people who may be found guilty of corrupt acts.
PC Appiah Ofori is one of the few politicians in Ghana who have stood straight against corruption whiles in government or in opposition. Some have described him as anti-corruption campaigner.
