I received nothing from the NPP – Randy Abbey

Metro TV’s ‘Good Morning Ghana’ host and a political analyst, Randy Abbey, has been tagged by former New Patriotic Party (NPP) chairman of the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency, Mr. Omari Wadie as an ‘opportunist’ who traffics from one political party to another for favour.

According to Mr. Wadie, his arrest at the airport upon his arrival from London by the BNI was allegedly masterminded by Randy Abbey who wants to impress the current government after profiting so much from the NPP over the years.

The former media relations officer of the Ghana Football Association(GFA) who has been heard on many political platforms defending the NPP on several occasions has suddenly switched camp to the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) and was part of the then John Mahama (JM) campaign team.

Reacting to Michael Omari Wadie, Randy Abbey vehemently debunked the allegation that he is an opportunist and stated clearly that he has never received a ‘food plate’ from the NPP in his entire life and dares the NPP to voice out what he benefitted from them.

“I want one single NPP person who has given me something whether in a form of position, a contract, car or house to own up and say that to the world to hear. I want one human being from the NPP to come out. They say all these things but they never give you anything. That is Ghana for you. People will just set people up and just decide that because I do not like this person I should say negative things about him or her.

“…I have experience this for years but as far as I am concerned I just need to be focused and do the right thing. You cannot stop people from saying negative things about you or write about you…I was praised few months ago and now they (the NPP) are lambasting me. It is up to them. God will judge us all,” he said.

Speaking on Accra-based Adom FM, Randy Abbey who is now the current Chairman of the Referees Appointment Committee of the GFA says the NPP never employed him to the Ghana Football Association (GFA) as claimed, but he has been part of the federation over the past years and went through elections before enjoying the position he occupied now.

“Those who voted for me are representatives of football clubs not political parties,” he emphasized.

Asked by Adakabre the host of the show whether he (Randy) was a member of the NPP communications team in 2008 and prior to that was given a Toyota Prado, he said “no political party in Ghana has given me Randy Abbey a blade not to talk of a car. Though I have used Prado before, it wasn’t given to me by the NPP”.
