I've no problem with NPP's 'foolishness' - Dr. Percy

Leading member of the defunct National Reform Party (NRP), Dr. David Percy has launched a scathing attack on the New Patriotic Party (NPP), claiming the opposition party is putting on airs and acting as if Ghana is their birthright.

According to him, the NPP apparently perceive themselves as forebears of the country and only believe in their own ideologies.

Speaking on Radio Gold's "Alhaji Alhaji" programme, Dr. Percy argued that the NPP's request for a new voter's register coupled with other electoral issues is somehow a ploy by the party to ensure that those with contrary views to their standpoint, give up for them to take their birthright.

He however stressed that the NPP is acting in bad faith, adding that "this silly business about getting a new register because you find a flaw of 10%, even less than 10%; beggars’ belief…Giving the fact that we know that we’re constantly losing people…I’m almost certain that my brother who died close to 10 years ago is still on the register. I’m certain that my sister who died in January is still on the register. So, by constantly coming up with absurd demands; we guarantee that there will be constant tension. It will generate anxiety; fear and hopefully the rest of us will give up and say, look, take your birthright and be done with it.”

Dr. David Percy further described as "foolishness" the position of the NPP on the electoral issues.

“In a certain sense, all our parties are accomplices to this buffoonery…And what amazes me is that persistently the NPP has acted on the basis of utmost bad faith. They go into caucuses. They go into IPAC. Consensus positions are adopted. They come out and run a contrary story…I have no problem with their foolishness. But what really amazes me is that other parties who are with them in those caucuses permit this nonsense to go on.”

He further opined that the opposition NPP does not uphold their democratic traditions and do not believe in multi-party rule.

To him, they will do anything at all cost to lay claims to the nation.

“Unless we decide that in fact, the business of running Ghana is their birthright, we’ll continue on this path for the next 100 years…The NPP does not believe in multi-party rule. The NPP has never believed in multi-party rule. One of the biggest wonders of the world is that somehow they have managed to get you to believe that they have democratic traditions. They have never believed in that," he stated.
