I’ve not apologized to Adom FM and Journalist; letter fake – Sanitation Minister

The Minister of Sanitation Cecilia Abena Dapaah has denied ever rendering an apology to an intern with Accra-based Adom FM, Rahinatu Abdul Bach, for disrespecting and deeming her unworthy to interview her [Minister].

Rahinatu Abdul Bach was reported to have been verbally assaulted by the Minister when she reached her on phone to respond to an issue.

The Minister is reported to have said, “You don’t let an intern call a minister, an elderly person like me? Please respect the office even if you don’t respect me as a human being.”

The Minister’s alleged comments have been met with huge criticism with some seeing her action as an attack on the media.

A statement purported to have been issued by the PR Unit of the Ministry of Sanitation on behalf of the Minister apologized to the intern and the media house.

“We sincerely apologize to the reporter and media house for any inconvenience caused and hope we will continue to work more closely together“, a portion of the said statement read.

But Hon. Cecilia Abena Dapaah in an interview on Oman FM Tuesday night urged the public to disregard the statement as she’s not apologized and sees no reason to apologize to the Journalist and Adom FM.

“The letter is fake, it is not true that I’ve apologized to Multimedia and Adom FM. I’ve not given any instruction for my PR Unit to write any letter on my behalf and I’ve not said a word on the matter myself. What I know is that yesterday evening two managerial staff of Adom FM called and apologized to me over the issue. I said that notwithstanding I have to write to the Media Commission and the Ghana Journalist Association to register my displeasure over the matter.”
