I visit Kufuor every week – Nana Addo

Two-time leader of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has dismissed reports that his relationship with Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has soured.

In a statement issued on Friday, May 30, Nana Addo described those reports as false and giving opponents of the NPP comfort from non-performance.

He said Former President Kufuor supported him during his two attempts to be president of Ghana and is assured of his support if he wins the party’s approval to contest for the presidency the third time.

Nana Addo, who served under the former president as Attorney General and Minister of Justice as well as Foreign Affairs Minister, observed that he harbours pride to have been a member of the regime of Mr Kufuor.

“Never has there been a point in time where our former President has done anything detrimental to me, as a person, or to the party with me as its presidential candidate,” he noted.

He advised members of the NPP to desist from propagating the “untruths” as “such unguarded pronouncements could give our opponents comfort from their non-performance.”

He revealed that he makes it a point to visit the former president every week.

“Such actions cannot be suggestive of a fractured relationship between two colleagues.”

Nana Addo intentions to lead the party for the third time has been received with mixed reactions especially from members endeared to Alan Kyeremanteng, who has also expressed interest to contest the party's primaries.

Dr Kwabena Frimpong Boateng, Joe Ghartey and Francis Addai-Nimoh have also expressed interest to contest the race.
