The Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, has reiterated his commitment and government efforts to ensuring total transformation in Ghana’s education sector, especially the public space.

Speaking at the launch of the Ministry of Education’s TV channel in Accra on Monday, December 2, 2024, Dr. Adutwum emphasised the importance of improving the quality of education for the country’s development.

He also outlined the plans being implemented by the ministry to effectively enhance the education system, including increasing access to education at all levels and improving the quality of teaching and learning across schools.

“We want to make sure that we enhance access to education at all levels, improve the quality of teaching and learning at all levels and make education relevant to the economic transformation agenda of Ghana. When I sit at the MOE as a minister, my preoccupation is to ensure that we transform public education spaces,” he said.

Dr. Adutwum highlighted how education has the potential to transform the country’s fortunes and play a key role in fostering policies that can drive innovative ideas to improve the well-being of the citizens.

He urged Ghanaians to recognize the importance and purpose of education as a means to an end, rather than viewing it solely as a requirement for personal education.

“What is the purpose of education in a developing country if your fortunes are not going to be changed? What is the purpose of going to school if you can’t innovate and create something that will change the well being of your people? A developing country cannot afford education for just education sake but we have to look at education as a means to an end and not an end to itself,” he added.
