National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer hopeful, Dr. Ekwow Spio Garbrah has made an astonishing revelation that he was the favourite of late President, Professor John Evans Atta Mills and would have been the latter’s choice as Vice President and not John Mahama.

Dr Spio-Garbrah was one of the losing candidates in the 2006 NDC flag bearer contest won by late Atta Mills.

He again joined the race as the party was reeling under a bitter power struggle between the late Atta Mills and the Rawlingses– which Attah Mills again won in 2012.

Speaking in an exclusive interview on Accra-based Hot 93.9FM’s morning show ‘Maakye’, Dr. Ekow Spio Garbrah astonishingly asserted that his selfless commitment and efforts towards his job as a minister made the late President, Attah Mills appreciate him more and would have chosen him as his running mate ahead of Ex- President John Mahama if he were a northener.

“If I am elected as flagbearer, since I am from Central and Western Region, I will have to choose someone from another region… Let me tell you that if I were to be a northerner, I would have become President Mills’ Vice President.” Dr.Spio Garbrah said on Hot 93.9FM

He continued,”Anyone who knew President Mills will tell you that I was his favourite not because of my physical features but for my commitment and hard work but because we were from the same Region, which is the Central Region it had to go somewhere else”.

Dr.Ekow Spio Garbrah is among the seven flag bearer aspirants of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) who have filed their nominations to contest the presidential primary of the party slated for February 23, 2019.

The rest are John Mahama, Goosie Tanoh, Nurudeen Idrissu,Joshua Alabi,Goosie Tandoh,Sylvester Mensah and Alban Bagbin.
