Former Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Irene Naa Torshie Addo has reacted to the NPP NEC’s decision to unanimously approve Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh as the running mate.

The astute lawyer expressed disappointment over the non-selection of a female candidate to assume such a high position as a running mate.

During an interview on Okay FM, monitored by GhanaWeb, Naa Torshie Tetteh, who was tipped for the same running mate position, said she had high hopes and expectations that the party would have given the mandate to a female candidate meritoriously to partner Dr. Bawumia’s presidential campaign.

Despite her disappointment, she believes that the NPP has what it takes to change the narrative in the party’s next internal selection of a running mate candidate and elect a female to assume the role.

“I believe that it is time for a woman to take up a leadership position, that kind of high position. That one I must say that I was hoping if even it wasn’t me, another female candidate would have been selected because NPP is known for their wide pool of intelligent and well-learned women. I will say I was disappointed because I was expecting a female to be made a running mate,” she said on Okay FM.

Naa Torshie Tetteh, however, disclosed she has accepted the decision of the party in good faith and will equally extend her support to ensure the party achieves its goal of breaking the 8 come December 7.

Naa Torshie further congratulated the running mate candidate Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh for his selection and subsequent endorsement. She believes Matthew Opoku Prempeh deserved to be selected as the running mate and that the decision by NEC is in the right direction.
