I will face the police squarely - Wontumi

The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party, (NPP), Bernard Antwi Bosiako has debunked claims that he assaulted the Manhyia North Member of Parliament, Hon. Collins Owusu Amankwa, rather it was the legislator who attempted assaulting him.

Chairman Wontumi as he is popularly called allegedly assaulted the MP and one Felix Ibrahim constituency secretary at the Nana Fordjour registration centre during the limited registration exercise on Sunday, May 1, 2016.

He was declared wanted by the Ashanti Regional police after he reportedly failed to honour an invitation to answer questions on the allegations leveled against him. According to the Police, Mr Boasiako has “since refused to honour the invitation” adding “instructions have, therefore, been issued to the Regional CID to have Chairman Wontumi arrested to assist in investigation”.

The Police say it will “be in his own interest”to immediately report to the Police to answer the offence of assault he has allegedly committed against the two members of his party.

Meanwhile it is unclear if the suspect has received the invitation sent him. Speaking in an interview with Kwame Tutu on frontline on Rainbow Radio, Chairman Wontumi said he is ready to meet with the police today and write his statements. According to him, the MP attempted assaulting him but he [Wontumi] run into his car and drove off, so it is surprising that the MP is accusing him of assault.

Mr. Bosiako added, the party do not have a constituency secretary by name Felix Ibrahim because the party is yet to organised both the polling station and constituency elections to elect executives.

"Hon. Owusu Amankwa told me in the face that he will kill me. He attempted assaulting me but I had to struggle to escape from him; so why should I be accused of assaulting someone who threatened to kill me. When I got to the polling station some supporters of the MP hooted at me. I was shocked then all of a sudden Hon. Amankwa invoked curses on me. This is what I know. The police have not served me with any warrant but I will go the police station today. I will go there."

According to him, the accusation means nothing to him and will go the station to defend himself.

Mr. Antwi Bosiako said the MP is bitter because he is not taking responsibility for his own challenges rather blaming people for his woes.

He noted, the Manhyia North constituency of the NPP is without executives due to litigation and instead of the MP helping to resolve the issue, he is rather going round blaming people for his irresponsibility.
