The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress, John Dramani Mahama has promised to introduce a national day of prayer and thanksgiving if he’s elected president.

John Mahama believes this initiative would significantly contribute to increased prosperity and progress in the country.

In a video shared on X by GhOne TV on August 15, 2024, he explained that countries like the United States of America and Zambia have set aside a day to mobilise prayer for their nation and its leaders.

"The Bible tell us in all things we should give thanks to God, in happiness and in sadness. So, many nations. even though God expects us to work to improve our circumstances also recognise that spiritually you must intercede for God to open the gates for you.

"And so in the United States, Zambia and so many counties that I have been invited to National day of prayer and thanksgiving. So, we intend to introduce annually a national day of prayer and thanksgiving so that we will thank God for what he has done so that he will so me for us, because he says we should count our blessings, and if you accept and recognise what he has done he will do more for us," he stated.

He indicated that both Christians and Muslims in the country would unite to pray for Ghana during the national day of prayer and thanksgiving.

"So, we will have a national day of prayer for both the Christian and Muslim community to open the days for Ghana so that our country will progress and prosper and create better opportunities for our young people and make our nation great and strong," he stated.
