The Founder and leader of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), Mr Percival Kofi Akpaloo has defended his stance to legalize marijuana when voted to rule the country in 2020.

He told the host of Kingdom FM’s Anopa Nkomo, Kwame Tutu that he will not only legalize marijuana otherwise known as ‘wee’ as President, but he will also ensure that it becomes the cash cow of the country to develop major areas lagging behind.

“Vote for Kofi Akpaloo as President for 2020 and when you do that, trust me we will turn Ghana around and Ghana will be a better place for everybody because we are going to legalize marijuana”.

Mr Kofi Akpaloo is of the view that the legalization of marijuana will be an avenue to create more jobs to absorb the teeming unemployed youth of the country and also boost the private sector.

The astute politician defended that developed countries that have made marijuana legal are enjoying its massive economic benefits.

“It is good in the drug market, it is good for hair creams, good for body creams . . . the USA that legalized it is making lots of money out of it,” he told Kwame Tutu.

But the Narcotics Control Board (NACOB) has warned celebrities and Radio Presenters pressing for the legalization of marijuana through the media to desist from the act else they’ll be dealt with according to law.

“The so-called celebrities who come to sit on radio/TV calling for the legalization should be warned. We’ll start cracking the whip in that direction,” NACOB PRO, Nana Osei Nkwantabisa warned.

Referencing, Section 55 of PNDCL 236, Nana Nkwantabisa said the law is explicitly clear on the illegality of narcotic drugs and speaks against the promotion, usage, possession, and others without the express permission of the Minister of Health.
