"I will not be zombie - Aspiring MP

Techiman, (B/A), Nov. 18, GNA - Mr Prince Oduro Mensah, Member of Parliament for Techiman South Constituency, has stated that he would not allow himself to be used as a rubber stamp for other politicians to achieve their personal gains.

Mr Oduro-Mensah, who is contesting on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), said he would not allow himself to be pushed around as a zombie just taking instructions as to what to do but rather use his own mind to plan development projects for his people, as he knew their concern.

Mr Oduro-Mensah was addressing the members of the NPP branch of the Nasara Club of Techiman at its inauguration and fund raising rally at Techiman.

He said he had been so tactful in executing development projects equitably in the Constituency so as not to incur criticism of discrimination.

Mr Oduro-Mensah expressed grave concern about some rumours reaching him that, he was insolent and said he had never stepped on the toes of anybody but it was just because he had been objective in his plans and he would not be taken for a ride.

He said the Government of the NPP was pursuing sound economic policies and called on the people to reject the lies being trumpeted by opponents of the Government.

He said the NPP Government had successfully completed its first chapter of good governance and that the Party needed continuity in its chapter two programme, and therefore, urged the people to vote massively for the Party in Election 2004.

Mr Ibrahim Ahmed Abass, Brong Ahafo Regional Coordinator of the Nasara Club, appreciated the NPP Government for recognizing the Zongo Community as people, who mattered in the State's governance. Mr Abass urged the members of the Club to vigorously campaign for more members to join the NPP for a resounding victory in the elections, devoid of any rancour, violence and intimidations.

Mallam Salifu Abubakari, Techiman South Constituency Chairman of the Club, said, the NPP had already won the confidence of the people through the number of development projects in the area and that the Zongo Community would not disappoint NPP but vote massively for it to win the up-coming elections.

Mr Isaac Osei-Antwi, Techiman Municipal Chief Executive, who presided over the function, called on the people to guard against any negative practices that would mar the elections.

At the rally 50 National Democratic Congress (NDC) members led by Mr Bawa Salam, Secretary of the Dagomba Line Youth Wing, announced their defection from the NDC to join the Club.

An appeal for funds yielded 2.2 million cedis.
