President John Mahama has said he will not campaign on the supposed ill health of his main opponent Nana Akufo-Addo of the New Patriotic Party.
The comment by the President comes on the back of reports by the Africa Watch Magazine that the former Attorney General is suffering from an acute cancer.
The report has however been dismissed by the doctor of Akufo-Addo who has said his patient suffers no cancer.
Commenting on the matter, the President told Paul Adom Okyere on Metro TV that he has a sound campaign message for the electorate and will not dwell on the health status of any candidate to win the December polls.
“As a historian I can’t help but notice that history comes around, because we’ve been here before. In the period that Professor Mills was campaigning and I was his running mate, our opponents hammered the issue of his health and here we are on another person’s health.
“I have told my compatriots that we don’t run on the health of an opponent and so we don’t make that an issue. I don’t take advantage of an opponent’s health. I believe that I have enough to talk about than running on somebody’s health,” Mr. Mahama noted.
