A number of prophets predicted the outcome of the just-ended December 7, 2024, general elections, including Kumasi-based Bishop J.Y. Adu, the leader and founder of the New Jerusalem Chapel (NJC).

In a radio interview, Bishop J.Y. Adu confidently prophesied a resounding victory for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer and outgoing Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. He asserted that this revelation was divinely inspired.

When the host asked him what should be done if his prophecy proved false and former President John Mahama won the election, the veteran man of God firmly declared that he should be held accountable for his words.

"If Mahama wins the election, Ghanaians should hold me accountable and question why. I stand by what I have said; I won't change it. Mahama will not win this election—mark my words. Hold me responsible if Mahama wins the elections.

"Yes, if Mahama wins the election, Ghanaians are free to say that God did not speak to me. If he wins, I will accept that God did not speak to me. Why wouldn’t I accept it? It would mean I made a false prophecy. But what God has said shall surely come to pass. In a few days, we will all know the outcome of the elections."

However, the former president, John Mahama, won with 56.55% of the vote and is set to return to govern Ghana. In his victory speech, he emphasized the importance of cooperation and solidarity in the days ahead.

Dr. Bawumia, who secured 41.61% of the vote, conceded defeat on Sunday morning. He called for national unity and congratulated Mahama on his victory, an act widely praised by Ghanaians as a demonstration of political maturity and a commitment to democratic values.

The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Jean Mensa, officially declared Mahama the winner. He received a total of 6,328,397 votes, representing 56.55% of the valid votes cast, while Dr. Bawumia garnered 4,657,304 votes, representing 41.61%.
