ICCES graduates to be given entrepreneurial skills training

Tetrefu (Ash), Dec 20, GNA-Plans are underway by the Ministry of Manpower Development and Employment to give entrepreneurial skills training to the graduates of Integrated Community Centres for Employable Skills (ICCES) to improve upon their technical and managerial competence.

The skills training, was also aimed at preparing the graduates for the formation of co-operatives so as to promote small-scale enterprises to reduce unemployment among the youth.

Mr Seth Apraku-Mensah, National Director of ICCES, made this known at the ninth graduation ceremony of the Tetrefu ICCES in the Bosomtwe-Atwima-Kwanwoma district on Friday.

Twenty-seven graduands, who underwent a three-year training in carpentry and joinery, building and construction as well as dressmaking were presented with certificates.

Mr Apraku-Mensah admitted that even though the ICCES concept had been successful so far, there was the need to equip the centres with the requisite human and material resources for the economic and social development of the country.

He called on district assemblies and the communities to give mutual assistance to the centres so that unemployment and the rural-urban drift among the youth could be reduced to the minimum. Mrs Gladys Asamaning, the Direct Director of Education, in a message read on her behalf, urged the graduands to endeavour to use the skills acquired to establish their own ventures.

Mr Daniel Amoh, the acting Manager of the centre, called on the community to support it to establish a catering department so that more girls could acquire training in catering.
