Parliament has adopted the report of the ad-hoc parliamentary committee that investigated the leaked tape in which some senior police officers were allegedly plotting the removal of the Inspector-General of Police.

The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, subsequently directed the Clerk of Parliament to present a copy of the report to the President for any action he deems necessary.

Among other recommendations, the report found that the three senior police officers—COP Alex George Mensah, Supt. George Lysander Asare, and Supt. Emmanuel Eric Gyedi—misconducted themselves, a major offense under police regulations, and must be sanctioned in accordance with the police disciplinary procedure.

The report was stood down last week for further consultation after the chairman raised serious reservations about the content, arguing that a key witness was ignored.

During the debate, after the report returned to the plenary following an engagement between the speaker and members of the committee, the Chairman of the committee and Abuakwa South MP, Samuel Atta Akyea, urged the house to reject the report.

However, the Vice Chairman of the Committee, James Agalga, argued that the report was signed by five out of the six members of the committee.

Speaker Alban Bagbin consequently issued the directive for the report to be sent to the President for action as recommended by the committee.
