The Police has assured citizens of their safety as it commences investigations into how three Ghanaians, including an ISIS recruit, smuggled grenades and other ammunition into the country from Libya.

“Police is investigating the matter in coordination with the relevant agencies, therefore, assures the public to remain calm,” a statement issued by the Director-General of Public Affairs at the Ghana Police Service, ACP David Eklu indicated in a press statement on Monday, 15 January.

Seven grenades and other explosives were found on the suspects who were apprehended based on police intelligence.

One suspect, Abdul Karim, was picked up through police intelligence at Agape in Accra and he subsequently led to the arrest of two other suspects, Osman Alhassan, 33; and Ishmael Ali Musa, 31.

Ishmael Ali Musa is believed to have ties with terrorist group ISIS in Libya.

All three suspects are currently being held at the Police Headquarters for interrogation and investigation.

The police is further appealing to the public to volunteer any relevant information related to the case under investigation through the 191 emergency line on all networks or 18555 (on Vodafone and MTN).
