Iduapriem Mine fetes school children

Iduapriem (W/R) Dec 26, GNA- The Management of Anglogold Ashanti, Iduapriem Mine has committed 16 million cedis to fete over 1,110 school children and 38 teachers drawn from communities in its operational area at Iduapriem near Tarkwa in the Western Region.

The communities included Teberiebe, Adieyie and Abumpuniso. The Christmas package, made up of biscuits, toffees soft drinks, handkerchiefs and Christmas hats was presented by Mrs. Joanna Kwofie, Executive Secretary, to Mr. David Renner, Managing Director of the company.

She said Christmas is a time of sharing and giving and the company has decided to pep up the spirits of the underprivileged children by presenting gifts to make their festivities a memorable one. Mrs. Kwofie advised them to be good pupils and study hard to become useful citizens in future in order to contribute to the national development.

On his part, Mr. Kwamena Sakyi-Yorke, Head of Community and Public Relations of the Mine, said management of the company was happy to present the gifts which demonstrates its commitment to improving the living conditions of the communities within its operational area. It is our prayer that this gesture will go a long way to strengthen the existing cordial relations between the Mine and the communities". He added

Mr. Joseph Graham, Teberiebe School Headmaster, on behalf his colleagues and the children thanked the company for remembering them this Christmas with gifts and prayed that fortunes of the company will continue to grow to enable it support the school within its operational area.

Mr. Graham noted that Iduapriem Mine, apart from the material assistance to the schools within the three communities, has instituted the Managing Director's Best Student Award Scholarship to the Senior Secondary School and the Community Teachers Incentives package.
