Ignore rumours.....workers

Accra, Oct. 23, GNA - Workers of the Upper East Region branch of the Ghana Highway Authority (GHA) have stated that all positions from Local, District and National level within the Construction and Building Materials Workers Union (CBMWU) of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) are contestable.

All members should therefore ignore rumours that those in leadership were handpicked.

"To say that Mr Pius Quainoo, General Secretary of the Union who was duly elected at a national congress was hand picked and has surrounded himself with GHA workers is untrue and malicious and calculated to bring division within the union."

In a Press Release issued on Friday in Accra, the workers therefore, urged all unionists to reject rumour mongers and expose them. It said, the GHA workers, whether in minority or not, became automatic members by the nature of their work and they have the right to participate in any union activities.

The workers said those who want to seek positions through diabolic means must rather go through constitutional methods and that would be in line with aspirations of all Ghanaians.

They charged members to remain united and to focus on what would serve the best interest of the union, in particular and the nation at large.
