Mr. Apraku has been on the run since, but after three years of the thorough investigation, police had placed him on the wanted list.

Narrating the story to NEWSMEN, the police commander of Kyekyewere police station said Mr. Apraku who is well known in the town for his illegal mining activities had a pit in which the prospects for gold and when he was not getting enough gold he abandoned the pit and moved to another area to prospect for gold without covering the old pit.

The police officer said on the 1st April 2015, a group of five young men decided to enter the old pit to prospect for gold but sadly the pit caved in, killing four of the five young men.

The one who survived was taken to the Kyekyewere hospital escaped from the hospital bed but police have been able to arrest the alleged fugitive after three years from his hideout.

According to the police, the suspect name withheld for security reasons mentioned the name of Mr. Apraku as the one who dug the pit.

The police have mounted a manhunt to for Apraku Owusu Samuel for the role he played in the death of illegal miners.

Illegal mining which is referred to as ‘galamsey’ in Ghana has destroyed the river bodies and the environment and as such anyone caught in the act could face several years in jail. As at the time of filing this report the Government of Ghana has formed a task force to check the menace.
