Illegal miner fined GHc180.00 for assault

A Tarkwa Circuit Court has fined a 43-year-old illegal miner, Kofi Zong GH?180.00 for unlawfully assaulting Isaac Nyarko, a clerk with Stejoan small scale mining company.

He pleaded guilty.

Prosecuting Detective Chief Inspector Oscar Amponsah told the court presided over by Mr. Samuel Obeng Diawuo that the complainant Isaac Nyarko, is the clerk of Stejoan Mining Company located in Tarkwa.

According to the prosecutor, on June 4, 2013, a fight ensued at a galamsey site between some of the complainant’s workers and those of the convict.

Some of the workers from both sides got injured, and they were sent to the Tarkwa Government Hospital for treatment.

The complainant upon hearing the incident proceeded to the hospital, and whilst there, Kofi Zong came with his master, one Adjei Ben.

Detective Amponsah said there was an exchange of words between Adjei Ben and the complainant, but the accused, who appeared from nowhere, suddenly slapped the complainant.

The complainant reported the incident to the Police, and that led to his arrest.

The prosecutor said Kofi Zong admitted the offence and explained that he only used his hands to brush the complainant’s face.
