Illiterate children will be liability to society - Adjei Boateng

Koforidua, Oct.16, GNA- Nana Adjei Boateng, New Juaben Municipal Chief Executive has expressed concern about the increase in trading activities by children along streets in the urban centres. He said such children when not provided better education would be illiterates and become liabilities not only to their parents but society.

Nana Boateng speaking at the presentation of school materials to 150 orphans from schools within the municipality by the Provident Social Services an NGO at the week-end, appealed to parents to take advantage of the Government's Capitation grant and send their children to school. The items included school bags, uniforms, pens and pencils and textbooks.

Nana Boateng said most of the children trading along the streets were due to irresponsible parenthood, and advised couples to plan their families well.

Ms Felicia Duku, Municipal Director of Education, said it was the responsibility of parents to provide for their children in schools. She said since the Government had absorbed fees of children in schools, it would not provide for their uniforms, therefore, parents must live up to their responsibilities.
