Data from the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) shows that 258 Ghanaian nationals were deported between 2021 and 2024.
According to a report by graphic.com.gh, these deportations were linked to offenses such as criminal convictions and immigration violations, as recorded by the Agency's Enforcement and Removal Operations.
The deportations occurred across various U.S. cities, with Newark accounting for 25 removals, New Orleans 23, Philadelphia and Atlanta 22 each, San Diego 21, and Washington, D.C., 10.
Annual figures reveal 56 deportations in 2021, 46 in 2022, 62 in 2023, and 94 in 2024, the report noted.
It added that during the same period, 417 Nigerians and 206,943 Mexicans were also deported.
Immigration enforcement has intensified under President Donald Trump’s administration, aiming to significantly increase arrests and deportations.
Deportation flights in the US resumed on Friday January 24, 2025, with ICE reporting 538 arrests and 373 detainees from its latest operations.
