Impeach Akufo-Addo over failed galamsey fight – Appiah Danquah demands

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo

An Accra-based lawyer, Andrews Appiah Danquah, is demanding that the President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, be impeached over his failure to fight against the galamsey menace.

During a panel discussion on TV3’s New Day, Lawyer Appiah Danquah made reference to Article 69 of the constitution, which states that the President must be impeached if he breaches the terms of the oath he took before assuming office.

According to him, the President breached the oath he took, which is against Article 69, adding that in order to solve the galamsey issue, the President must be used as a scapegoat to serve as a deterrent to others.

According to him, the President has slept on his job as a trustee to the detriment of the citizens of the country.

“The President is sleeping. That’s why a lot of institutions like UTAG, the Labour Union, and others are calling for demonstrations. He has been lax in his duty as the trustee of the minerals of this country. Including ministers, they should bow their heads in shame. If we were in a serious country, Abu Jinapor should resign,” he disclosed.

Appiah Danquah emphasized that the President has been made the trustee of the land and the natural resources but has failed to protect the land.

“The constitution created institutions that will help the President, who is a trustee of the land, in the discharge of this huge burden placed on him as a trustee.

"These institutions created to regulate mining have not been strengthened. They’ve been weakened, and because of that, even though mining is supposed to be a highly regulated activity, the regulator doesn’t have the logistics to regulate.

"It’s a massive failure of the President,” he noted.
