Some members of anti-corruption group, People’s Action Against Corruption (PAAC) has called on President Nana Addo Dankwa on the need to strengthen Anti-Corruption institutions to combat the canker in the country.

The coalition led by CDA-Ghana, NORSAAC AND Rise-Ghana stated, at a workshop sponsored by UKAID, that although the Akufo-Addo-led government has “good intentions to fight corruption” as represented in statements made by the President, more needs to be done to fight corruption to its core.

According to PAAC, the increasing act is an impediment to President Akufo-Addo’s Ghana Beyond Aid Agenda. Among many observations cited, PAAC emphasized that government must ensure the “independence” of Anti-Corruption Agencies especially with the tussle between the Auditor General and the Board Chairman of the Audit Service.

Hence in order to avoid the circumstance of anti-corruption institutions from being sacrificed at the altar of political manipulations, the statement suggested that, “The independence of the Auditor General and other Anti-Corruption Agencies must be protected and save-guarded at all cost to give meaning to the tenets of democratic accountability and good governance.”
