Vice President Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia has announced that Ghana is set to join advanced countries where mobile phones can be obtained for free.

According to him, this will be made possible by the impending implementation of a Credit Scoring System in the country.

In a post shared on his official X page, Dr. Bawumia stated that the Credit Scoring System will enable individuals to obtain mobile phones for free from phone companies with a two or three-year contract, subject to their credit.

"In most advanced nations, mobile phones can even be obtained for free from the phone companies with a two or three-year contracts, subject to your credit score," he explained.

Dr. Bawumia highlighted the benefits of the Credit Scoring System, noting that it will make it easier for ordinary Ghanaians to purchase essentials such as cars, mobile phones, and obtain loans at lower interest rates.

Dr. Bawumia criticized his opponents, saying they are prone to doubting possibilities and speaking without sufficient information.

He also shared his vision for Ghana's future during his constituency-focused nationwide campaign, interacting with the people of Lambussie, Nandom, and Lawra constituencies.

"I shared this and many more of my vision for Ghana's future when I interacted with the good people of the Lambussie, Nandom and Lawra constituencies yesterday as part of my constituency-focused nationwide campaign," he noted.

Dr. Bawumia's promise to make smartphones more accessible to Ghanaians if elected president has been criticized, with some questioning the feasibility and potential cost implications of the plan.

He outlined a plan to collaborate with phone manufacturers to provide smartphones to citizens on a credit basis.

"We will make mobile phones accessible. My government will partner with phone manufacturers so that Ghanaians can afford them on credit and pay 1 or 2 cedis every month,” he stated.

Dr. Bawumia said he remains committed to his vision of increasing digital inclusion in Ghana.
