The chief executive officer of the National Health Insurance Authority, NHIA, Dr. Samuel Annor says the scheme is in talks for an increase in the tax component that funds the NHIS.
Briefing Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee, PAC, on findings of the auditor general on the NHIA for 2015, he said inadequate funding for the scheme has led to a decline in membership.
He said as at the end of 2015, membership rose astronomically without an increase in the module of its funding.
Dr. Annor further indicated that validating claims by health providers continue to be a major worry of the NHIS.
