The Minority in parliament has flagged explanations given by the Special Development Initiatives Minister on the $800,000 website development saga as flawed.
Mavis Hawa Koomson Thursday rejected reports that her Ministry intends to spend the staggering amount for the development a website.
Speaking in an interview with Starr Today’s Naa Dedei Tettey she said the figure contained in the breakdown of the Ministry’s 2018 projected expenditure was an oversight.
“How on earth can we use GHc800,000 for just a website? Are we mad? To be frank with you when I heard the report I called the budget officer only to realize that it was a typo,” she stated.
That notwithstanding, she chided the former deputy Finance and Minority spokesperson on Finance Cassiel Atto Forson for playing politics with the error.
According to her, the actual figure is GHc80, 000 and it will not only be used in building a website for the Ministry but the three development authorities and their regional offices.
But speaking to Starr News’ Parliamentary Correspondent Ibrahim Alhassan Friday, December 22, Mr. Atto Forson shredded into pieces the clarification offered by the embattled Minister, saying “It is unbelievable.”
“I think it is a sign of incompetence at its peak for a sector Minister to conclude that the document obviously that she brought to parliament she, one; never read it and two she didn’t understand it and was expecting me to look at it and then correct her?,” added the former deputy Finance Minister.
He continued that he believes Hawa Koomson lacks what it takes to be a Minister of state and should resign.
“…So much blatant corruption under her watch. She should go. She doesn’t qualify to stay as a Minister of State and so I’ll expect his Excellency the president to sack her,” he told Ibrahim.
