The Ashanti Regional Minister Simon Osei-Mensah has charged the Ghana Police Service (GPS) to address as quickly as possible the issues of prevalence of illegal mining activities, trade in small arms and hard drugs and the invasion of foreign prostitutes.
Mr Osei-Mensah speaking at the National Police Command Conference with the theme “Transforming Ghana Police Service into a World Class Police-The Role of Regional Commanders” said the increase of cross-border crimes is another major security threat that Regional Police Commanders have to dilate on so that people do not take advantage of Ghanaians’ hospitality.
According to Simon Osei-Mensah, this country has been playing host to brothers and sisters from the sub-region and this has provided avenues for invasion of criminals in recent times from sister countries.
“I hope the police will work fast at it to identify the bad nuts and arrest them gain roots in the country. This calls for collaboration with your counterparts in the sub-regions so the criminals do not have save have anywhere,” he said.
He added that it is my anticipation that the Regional Commanders will use this Conference to share ideas on specific and several crime situations with the view of adopting strategies to combat them.
