Ghana’s Ambassador to Italy, Her Excellency Mrs. Eudora Quartey-Koranteng, has stressed that the 14-day incubation period of the COVID-19, is one of the factors that made the disease more complicated to deal with.

Speaking on the Happy Morning Show with host, Raymond Nyamador, on the topic ‘COVID-19 in Europe: Sharing the Italy experience’, she observed that the fact that people get to walk around freely for fourteen whole days, completely unaware of being infected, is what basically caused the massive spread.

Hon. Eudora acknowledged that putting the whole of Italy under lockdown, region by region certainly did have an impact in containing the Coronavirus as it created room for medical facilities to attend to the populations that had gotten infected in each region.

“The nature of the virus was not anticipated and the way it spreads is so silent. This is something that has come up in all the different countries; Europe and recently we’ve seen in New York and other states in the US, how despite the attempt to contain the spread of the virus infection, once it’s penetrated, unlike bacteria, it needs to run its course”, the ambassador said.

Per this, Mrs. Quartey-Koranteng commented that the problem that came up with Italy was the virus and the curve. “The authorities had not been able to identify the nature of the spread so, at any point in time, they seemed to be behind the curve and had to allow the infected to the peak.

Fortunately, today, we’re happy to find that it’s peaked and the numbers are certainly drastically lower than they were at the height of the pandemic as it spread through Italy”, she further noted.
