Indecent Assault

Akim Swedru (E/R), June 4, GNA - Kwaku Nyadu, a 37-year-old farmer at Akim Achiase was on Friday sentenced to 30 months imprisonment by the Swedru Circuit Court for indecently assaulting a kindergarten girl.

Nyadu, who pleaded guilty to the charge, asked the court to deal leniently with him.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Victor Aleawonor told the court, presided over by Mr George Koomson that, on May 16, the victim's grandmother left her and other siblings at home and went to town. Later in the day, Nyadu met the victim and her sister in front of their house and invited them to his veranda and later sent the other girl to buy him roasted groundnut.

Nyadu took advantage of the absence of the sister, undressed the victim and put her on his lap and inserted his finger into her private part.

The prosecutor said he later warned the victim not to reveal the ordeal to anyone and gave her some of the roasted groundnuts. However, the victim told her grandmother the following day and a report was made to the police who issued a medical form to attend hospital where it was confirmed that she had been assaulted.
