Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin has indicted former president John Dramani Mahama as indecisive when it comes to decision making, because he has allowed people to push him into a political race he cannot win in 2020, even if he secures the party’s nomination.
Mr. Mahama was humiliated in office when his bid for a reason election was flatly rejected by the people, a situation which compelled the party to setup the Kwesi Botchwey Committee to investigate why they were humiliated at the polls.
But regional peace walks that have so far taken place in other regions of the country, under the guise of fostering unity within the party, is just an attempt by the former president to get himself back on the party’s ticket.
Mr. Bagbin, who is also vying for the position, accused former mayor of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), Kojo Bonsu of being the vehicle through which the former president is sponsoring the walks.
According him, the former President has no enviable record that he can stand on and contest, especially when he was defeated in an elections in 2016.
He said the former president is not only indecisive but has allowed himself to be pushed around by hangers on who are desperate to claw their way back into power so they continue from where they left off.
The longest serving lawmaker for Nadowli in the Upper West region also believes the ex-President is disrespecting recommendations contained in the Kwesi Botcwhey report presented by a 13-member fact finding team that was commissioned to establish the cause of the party’s defeat at the 2016 polls and proffer solutions.
He indicates that Mr Mahama’s involvement in the party’s unity walks organized by non-executives member buttress the point he is not acting in conformity with recommendations of the 455-page Committee’s report.
“Definitely he is not conducting himself in conformity with the recommendations of the Kwesi Botchwey report and I will call on him to rather rethink what is happening. He should not behave as if it is the mob that is taking him along because he is a leader and must show leadership. What you see in the crowd does not mean their members of the NDC. There are a lot of teeming unemployed youth who are doing nothing and definitely join”, he revealed.
According to him, the massive crowd at the various Unity Walks is not a show of strength for the former President as most of the patrons may not be members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) after all but there for some reasons not because they support the party or the former President.
