Independence Day Parade: Techiman MCE stops MP from participating

If a barrage of blows piled on an aide of the MP of Techiman South Adjei Mensah, by henchmen of the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Techiman, Oppong Amponsah at the Independence Day parade was anything to go by, then it best fits for a curtain raiser for the upcoming epic boxing fight between Floyd Mayweather Junior and Manny Pacquiao.

The beauty at the recent 58th Independence Day parade at the Techiman Municipality in the Brong Ahafo Region was nearly marred by the trolls of the Techiman Municipal Chief Executive, Oppong Amponsah.

The occasion which was relatively well organized as people from all corners of Techiman and its environs, gathered at the parade grounds to witness the march past of students from primary and second cycle institutions, was flawed as some henchmen of the MCE ordered the Member of Parliament of Techiman South Hon. Adjei Mensah, not to partake in the event because he was not officially invited.

According to the MCE’s trolls, the MP was not part of the programme and for that matter they would not understand why he should be made to speak at the parade.

The intervention of chiefs and elders present at the grounds to persuade the rather surprised MP not to leave the event could not even convince the MCE to permit the MP to make some presentations as the furious MCE stood his grounds.

But as the dust of confusion was yet to settle at the grounds, the MCE’s boys pounded on an aide of the MP and beat him mercilessly without any provocation.

According to information picked from the grounds, it was a free for all fight as one Attipoe, a close aide to the MCE pounced on Kwadwo Agyei, a supporter of the MP.

Adjei, who narrated his ordeal to the Enquirer, said he and some few concerned people even persuaded the MP to remain calm as the police restores sanity at the grounds.

He however said that before he would say jack, Attipoe, who is wanted by the police, attacked him and hit him in the face, wondering how could someone who is wanted by the police, be walking free and had the audacity to attack him.

The Public Relations Officer (PRO) for the MP, one Mustapha Mohamed Sulemana accused the MCE of sabotaging the MP and rather paint a bad picture of him in the face of the good people of the Techiman South constituency.

According to Sulemana, the MCE is fighting everybody in the constituency and beyond, alleging that the constituency chairman and executives are at loggerheads with him.

He said appeals made by party functionaries in the constituency, municipal and regional and even national level to persuade the MCE to live peaceably among the rank and file of the party has ended in futility.
