Independence Day parade: Ten collapse in Tamale

At least ten school children and a soldier have collapsed while participating in the ongoing Independence Day parade at Tamale in the Northern region.

The unconscious pupils and the soldier were seen receiving treatment in the ambulances stationed at the park where the anniversary is being observed in the region.

A health official with the Tamale Central Hospital who who confirmed the incident to Starr News said the pupils suffered a loss of glucose, adding some were hungry and dehydrated.

On Friday, a 22-year-old teacher who was taking part in a rehearsal ahead of the parade in the Eastern region collapsed and died on the spot.

Ghana is observing its 59th Independence anniversary today March 6.

The theme for this year's celebration is "Investing in the Youth for Ghana's Transformation."

President John Mahama will deliver the Independence Anniversary Address in Accra after a march past by security personnel and school children, drills and equipment display by the security agencies and performances by various groups.
